This is a simple tutorial on how to convert raster images to vector images using VectorDesigner. VectorDesigner has a built-in “Convert raster to vectors” command under the “Arrange” menu, but unfortunately the results when converting complex images (i.e. images with more than one color
) aren’t too good. This means that we first have to take a few steps to prepare our image for conversion. Read under the cut for both a text and a video tutorial.
This method works only on images with a white or very light background.
- Open your image in VectorDesigner
- Prepare it for conversion by selecting the “Adjust” tool and doing the following:
- Increase gamma
- Decrease saturation
- Increase contrast
- Decrease brightness
In the video I increased the values to the max and decreased them to the minimum, but it might depend on your image.
- Select Arrange > Convert Raster To Vectors
Now your image is a vector, and as such can be modified like any other vector image - you can resize it, rotate it, change the color, fill it with an image or a gradient, or fill it with text. You can also add a stroke (outline) around it, apply a drop shadow, change it’s opacity or blending mode, and apply dozens of filters. Enjoy!
